November 15 - 31 2012

DAN
16-= Dan was in charge of our date so he took me to the mall and we had a 4 course meal one course at a time then sent pictures of our choices to Joseph.  It was fun.
  1. Dan took Richard out to lunch and the movies and to Joseph's dog show.  Doug and Dan went to a football game tonight.
  2. Family Dinner and Cindy made Cheesecake.  Josie came over for my birthday too.
22.  Thanksgiving at Tews w was wonderful (although o was in pain much of the time) we them went to the movies.
  1. Dan went down to Cedar City and St. George with Cindy, mom and Cannon.  They helped get the girls ready for their extended stay and they got to hold Link.  They arrived back home the night of the 25th
  1. Dan went to visit Richard. He is sick with the crud.

PATRICIA
  1. I helped Joseph set up his dog show this morning.  Shelisa came too.  In the afternoon two girls from the ward came over to sing for me: Cassidy and Alyse.  It was wonderful.  We called Heidi to leave a song for her too.
MY BIRTHDAY
At church the whole Relief Society sang to me! It was their way of thanking me for my bday calls through the year.  I was very touched.
Cindy made me a cheesecake and gave me a necklace and earrings, Josie dropped by with a card and a picture of musical integuments, Joseph gave me a card, Heidi gave me a beautiful grandson and we are all praying and hoping that his body will heal, She even took a picture of Link and sent it from the hospital saying "Happy Birthday Grandma," Trisha made me breakfast, waxed my eyebrows, cut my hair and gave me a round pillow, Tiff gave me a beautiful set of knives and Dan gave me a new camera case and an evening of hot tub, dinner and a visit with Mom.  There were also 27 happy birthdays from Facebook and many phone calls to sing happy birthday.
The hard parts of my day were worrying about Link and loosing Blaire, a dear friend in the ward who is the husband of Bonnie (the woman I visit teach).

20.. this morning so I am thinking of things I am thankful for I am thankful that I knew blIre,, that I can take tipi tea and to take her cold off today, that Heidi is so good about keeping me up with what's going on with link, that Dan and I could visit my mom had yesterday and that also my mouth is very painful right now I can take the heat shakes or slim fast.
Trisha and I went shoppiing at Walmart but Joseph needed help pulling a document up that Dan had edited so I headed home to help. After shopping I was exhausted.
Divit got her cone off, I went to the doctors and started on anti-biotics then went home to sleep the night away.

21_ today has been a blurr.. I return to the doctors and found out that I have to hand mouth and foot disease. it is so painful.
Link numbers are down
From an email to Darla:
I am in a good deal of pain and discomfort because of the hand, mouth and foot disease I am afflicted with right now.  I must have about 50 sores in my mouth, tongue, throat and ears...the doctor could only give me a special mouthwash and assured me that it would be over in 6-21 days.
This means I can't go see Link before he flies to Pennsylvania and that I can't help with the girls till I am all better.  Cindy and Trisha will take over.  Dan and Cindy will be picking them up on Sunday.
20-26- These were very tough days for me.  Full of pain, nausea and insomnia.  My mouth sores have been so difficult that I can hardly swallow and I have lost about 5 lb. I will be seeing an ENT doctor later today. I would be able to take over for Heidi with the girls since she is in Phylladelphia with the baby...but I'm too sick.  Kerri came on Saturday to give me a massage.  Fortunately I received a special blessing and prayer yesterday and Josie and Darla and Mike have stopped by and many have called.  I am blessed and hopeful at the moment.   I have also been listening to many books on tape.
  1. 28-Since I started on the steroids today and the canker medicine and with lots of prayers...I am soooo thankful that I am feeling some progress today.
I am thankful. I can eat salad now. I don't have a fever,, I can think and feel, my mouth doesn't burn all the time. I am thankful that we have better news about think today
  1. I am getting better… really I am.  My open mouth sores are gone.  My energy is coming back and I even got the car lubed and oiled and enjoyed having CoLynne visit teach me and going hot tubing with Kerri, talking to my grandkids on the phone and resting.
  1. Darla had me over to her house for a belated birthday celebration.  Fun!  Working on registering the girls at the school.  Kezia came to our house after her stay at Trisha's place and Trisha and I went shopping for Christmas things at Costco.

CINDY
  • Cindy went to Cedar City and St. George with Dan.  They helped with the girls and visited Link.  McKinley and Ireland stayed at their house while I was sick.  Mike also gave me a blessing on the 25th.  Thanks to all.

HEIDI
  1. It looks like we are on plan f with Link now.  Link wasn't progressing like they had hoped.  He is on 12 units of glucose still and his blood sugar went down to 30.  They are now increasing his steroids for 24 hours.  If that doesn't help they will try a medication designed to block the increased insulin coming from the pancreas. We continue to pray.
17 - Heidi called to say that the steroid plan isn't working so a Dr. Smart from Primary Children's hospital was consulted.  It was determined that he will be given a medication that blocks the extra insulin that he is kicking out.  It directly effects the pancreas. It comes with some side effects that are bothersome but if it will stabilize the situation I guess it will be worth it.  They will bring this medicine in from Primary Children's Hospital and try it for 3 days.  If it doesn't work it looks like surgery to remove part of the pancreas will be the next step.  The hospital that specializes in this sort of thing is in Philadelphia! We all hope and pray that it doesn't come to this nevertheless, thy will be done.
  1. Heidi and Jason flew to Phyllidelphia with Link starting at 3 AM.  After they helped get the girls ready for their Salt Lake Stay  They were on a very small plane.  They were taken by ambulance to the hospital after landing. Kezia went to spend the week at Trisha's.  Ireland and McKinley went to Cindys place because I was sick.
  2. News from the genetic testing came back.  It turned out that it came from Jason's gene pool.  The good thing about that is that they should only have to take part of the pancreas.  The surgery is scheduled for next http://jhhamiltonhappenings.blogspot.com/2012/11/some-answers-info.html

TIFFANY
  • We appreciated Tiffs hard work on gathering money to help fly Heidi and Jason back home for Christmas.  Thanks Tiff
  1. I enjoyed a talk with Tiffany today.  I got to hear all about the playgroups she is in charge of and how they went to the huge mall today.

TRISHA
  1. I loved Trishas visit today! :)
  2. 26-28- Trisha and Darrin took over with Kezia till I could get better.

JOSEPH
  1. Joseph had a bad day today.  He took Gwendolyn to a dog show  and she got so excited that she smacked the windshield with her head and broke it!!
  2. Joseph had a dog show for Gwen.  He started the day early with Shelisa and I driving to Farmington and setting up the dog cages etc.
  3. Joseph is really into snakes this month.  He has a male and female boa snake along with a huge cage.

JOSIE
  1. Josie stopped by to help me, get me to sip some chicken soup and encourage me to see an ENT.

2012 November 1 - 15- Link is Born
Thursday, November 01, 2012
1:27 PM
Family
  1. Big dinner then skyping with Heidi and Tiff and familites. Fun!
  2. We had Alan and Heidi over for dinner.  Joseph barbecued.  It was great.  Afterward we sat around and talked.  We ended up discussing religion.  I felt the spirit strong as we discussed aspects of our church as well as other religions.
Dan
  1. Dan and Joseph put new wood on our utility trailer today.
  2. Dan took off for the Las Vegas Regnar race a day after Link was born.  He will run in the relay then join me at Hamilton's.
  3. Dan's first run during ragnar was 3 miles.  His second was 9 miles at 3 in the morning.
Patricia
  1. Today I enjoyed having my friend Brittany come over for lunch and a scensy demonstration.  After that I visited my sister Cindy then took Divit to vet.
  1. I am thankful for time with tiara and for clean kitchen and for classes to wear. Tiarra and I put together a puzzle and we also did a treasure hunt for Joseph.  We did a foot rub trade too.  Later in the morning we went to my cousins Don McCandless's funeral. Tonight I was in charge of our date and Joseph helped me figure it out. We first went to Smiths for deli dinner and then got a red box rental THE VOW.  Next we went to Sugar House park to go for a walk and take pictures (each of us had a camera)  Next we ate our food and shared pictures. Next we went to see our old scenic drive basement apartment and enjoy the lights then home to watch the video.

Writing:

The Sign Lied
Our utility trailer was badly in need of repair.  The large sheets of plywood were rotting after many years of use and we decided to replace them with planks of wood.  I was sent to Lowes to purchase 2x10x10’s to cover the area. I got them home and weatherproofed them with linseed oil then handed them to our son, Joseph, to install them.  Imagine our surprise when we learned that the boards were only 2x9x10’s.  We were 8 inches short!  I had do return to the store to get more wood.  I wanted my money back for 8 inches of wood!  I learned that the signs lied.  In fact, all the wood signs lied. They boasted inches that were not there.  The manager explained that the lumber folks start with the right size then they plane it down.
I told the manager that it was a matter of principle. The sign lied and I had to make an extra trip and now treat more wood.  In the end, after much trouble, I was given a refund for my lost inches.
I find many applications to this story in my own life, do you?  How many times are we “lied to”.  We are promised one thing then delivered another. The scriptures talk about a fig tree that pretends to offer fruit but is barren (Luke 13:6-9.)  What do we do when we are offered one thing and delivered another?  Should we discuss the matter with the “manager”?  Should we demand a refund?  Are we expected to automatically know that life will come up short and buy extras?  Are we the person who comes up short?  How does this apply in your life?
4- There was some nice comments about the ward newsletter today.  Thanks Father.
5 I didn't sleep very well .I en joy to my time with Kelly and Bonnie and  Kerri.  tally brushed my hair last night it was so sweet and nice.  Kalli and I helped Bonnie for an hour
  1. Kerri and I spoke at SLCC college today.  There was a lot of discussion about the Mormon Church and its influence on depression!  I hope we responded the way the Lord wants us to.  At night I went to Relief Society with my neighbor May.  Later we watched the Presidential race.

I admit. I am in mourning. I couldn't sleep very well after the results of the election. It's 4 A.M. and I finally gave up trying. I recognize that I must go through the 3 stages of loss: 1. Denial (I honestly hoped that Romney would win
), 2. Acceptance (although this is hard because of the many votes Romney received and because of how I differ from many of Obama's beliefs), 3. Rebuilding (I want to rebuild on Faith in my Heavenly Father and his plan instead of fear of the future. )
I am thankful that I have my Heavenly Father to turn to and to talk to (especially at 4 in the morning.)
  1. I had trouble with not sleeping and a nightmare last night.  I dreamed that I was getting ready to go to Burton's house on a trip when the kids were young.  It was winter and I ended up accidently leaving Trisha in the car for 2 hours when I went in the house. She was asleep and I was too distracted with other things!  It was a horrible, horrible nightmare.   I am helping at the Church Cheese factory in the morning. ..I wonder how I will get through the busy day. :(
Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light. – From Kalli, my Granddaughter’s Faith Book
  1. See Heidi's heading for the account of when Link was born and my adventures in Cedar City.
  2. Tiarra slept overnight.  She went to my cousin, Don McCandless funeral on Friday.

HEIDI- (Including my adventures in Cedar City-- Although they are a bit mixed up they are worthy of note.)
  1. A boy was born the day after the elections to the Hamiltons.  I think his name will be Link.  He was huge weighing in at 9 lbs. 6 oz. 20 inches tall.  Heidi's water  broke at about midnight and it was a long labor (16 hours.)  Jason was a huge help.  The nurses an midwife said they wanted to hire him.  He was posterior and had the cord wrapped around his neck so it was a bit tense at the end but he is beautiful and so loved by all.  I took lots of pictures.  Both of us grandma's were in attendance.  I drove down by myself on Wednesday morning then took over with the girls at night.
  1. The girls got up by 6:30 and after silly songs and getting them ready for school I shooed them out the door to catch the bus.  They came back a few minutes later and said their friend wasn't waiting at the bus stop yet so they must wait at home a bit longer.  Soon the bus lumbered past and once again I shooed them out the door.  They came back and said the bus didn't even stop so I piled the girls and the van and went in search of the elementary school!  Miraculously we found it!! Thanks Father. Last I think I learned the true meaning of a melt down when it was time for Kezi to take a nap...she's sleeping like a princess now.
The baby is on an iv because his blood sugar is a bit low.  They may keep him another day.
it was a rough night getting the kids to bed. Kezia decided to jump from the dresser to the bed and in the process ended up with a fat lip. she wouldn't let me give her any Tylenol
  1. Kezia woke up happy.  Later Heidi called and was crying.  They told her they were taking Link by ambulance to the St. George Hospital because his blood pressure had dropped dangerously low.   Heidi and Jason came home and helped get the girls things ready then we all headed to St. George.  I tried to follow them with my van but they were going much faster and with the dark, the wind, the windy roads and the huge trucks that whizzed past me I was white knuckling it all the way. By the time I got to the hospital I was a wreck.  The girls and I got to join Heidi and Jason while we visited Link in his incubator.  One nurse nicknamed him "chunk" because he was so much bigger than all the other nicu babies.  He was so good as he lay all hooked up from his belly to his head.  At night I stayed in the hospital room with Heidi and she pumped at 1 and 5.  They called at 5:45 to say his blood sugar levels had dropped again...not good news.
  1. Heidi and I went down to visit Link at 8 after I could get my headache under control.  She got to feed him with a bottle (they don't want him to nurse yet.)  Soon Jason came and I went to his brothers house to take over with the kids.  Many doctors came to visit Link and they were puzzled at his problem because he had the characteristics of a baby with a diabetic mom….even though Heidi wasn't disbetic.  They told us that we should expect a 1-2 week stay instead f 2-3 days.  The whole family has been praying.  At night I stayed with the Pitts.  Joann and I went out to dinner and talked and talked.  Keely and Jeff, Jasons brother and sister in law took care of the girls.
  1. I woke with another bad headache.  Today it snowed here is Cedar City.  It really snowed in Salt Lake.  Joseph said it was a foot.  I got to visit Link and take lots of pictures. Along with that Link's blood sugar level went up more and we were hopeful  that he could come home by Wednesday.  Heidi and Jason came home briefly and took the girls home and I took over.  I can't even tell you what else we did during the day except straighten and get the routine down more.  Dan did well on his Ragnar race.  At night Kezia tried to jump from the dresser to her bed and ended up with a fat lip.
Sunday- With the Lords help I got the kids to church almost on time. McKinley and Kezia had speaking parts on the Primary Program (it was excellent with a lot of instrumental music included.)  There were a few people who stopped to talk to me about how things were going and they asked me to report on the Hamilton status in Relief Society.  I made the traditional bread with the bread maker for part of lunch after church.  Dan arrived around 4 and soon after that we left for St. George so he could meet his grand son.  Keeley had us over to her house for a wonderful dinner before hand.  -- Link was cute and as cuddlie as he could be (given all the wires he had on him.)  Unfortunately his numbers went down again so it looks like Saturday will be the soonest he can come home now.
An Update:

Link's blood sugar went down a little yesterday and they said the earliest he can leave will be Saturday.  Dan arrived yesterday around 4.  He needs to leave Wednesday afternnoon so I am still planning to leave with him. Jason's mom plans to take over for a few days before he comes home on Saturday. Keeley, Jason's sister in law, has been very helpful and kind.  She lives in St. George about 15 minutes from the hospital.  She even had us all over for dinner last night then Dan got to see his grand son for the first time yesterday.
Link is a sweet baby.  He is all wired and hooked up with about 6 tubes and connections yet he is patient and rarely complains.
The girls are sweet.  They miss mom and dad but Heidi and Jason sing to them at night and that helps.  They have also been able to see him about every other day

12-Monday- Challenging morning right before the bus came.  Later on we went to Walmart…  Kezia helped me do the laundry...Later on the girls and I had art time and made little Links in papooses :)  Ireland made a Tee Pee.  After dinner the girls went to Heidi's friend, Dianne, for Family Home Evening.  Dan and I went out to dinner with Dave and Joann.
The morning went much better.  I made a nice breakfast and the girls were very cooperative.  In the afternoon the girls got to play at a friends and Dan and I were able to pick up Heidi's order at Walmart. Heidi's visiting teachers from the ward brought dinner in. It was so kind.
  1. Tuesday- home with the kids. Heidi's relief society sisters brought a wonderful dinner.
Wednesday- kezi and I make peanut butter ball snowmen.  Jason took over around 2:00 and we drove home.
14-15- Link still having trouble with his blood sugar
Cindy
  1. Tiarra slept overnight.  She went to my cousin, Don McCandless funeral on Friday.

Josie
Josie has been doing a neat THANKFUL FOR… thing on facebook.  Some of her entries have been:
Day 7: I am thankful for $5 pizza from Little Ceasers. Yes, its cheating to feed the family fat calorie laden food, but the price of keeping my sanity on a busy school night is one I am willing to pay. I'll do an extra half-hour on the treadmill tomorrow. God bless the USA! And the invention of pizza :)
Day 10: thankful for old and new friends who make me laugh!
Day 14: thankful for the freedom to express political views at work, and laugh with those who share, and don't share them
Day 15: thankful for the ability to earn a paycheck, and to make my kids earn their "paycheck" by cleaning the house.

DECISIONS- During my personal prayers today I was really talking to my Father about our decision concerning campaining for Mitt Romney this weekend. On Sunday they will take us to church then they want us to campain 2-3 hours before coming home.  That felt like breaking the Sabbath day to me... yet, I have felt impressed to help with his campain since I watched the video about Oboma and since the debates.  As I took a shower and continued pondering I wrote a mental list of pros and cons in my mind.  As I was getting ready for the day I thought of Ann Dibbs conference address.  She said we need to stand up and be counted as Mormons.  We need to say "I'm a mormon."  After that I felt comfortable with the decision since we are doing it as volunteers and there may be opportunities to share our faith.   I know that missionary work is a very good Sunday activity.  I haven't shared my thoughts with Dan yet but it has been a special morning. --- we plan to leave Friday 4 o'clock.

DECISIONS- i THINK  I spent 3 hours looking for a good cordless vacuum.  In the end _____________

FROM TRISHA'S BLOG
On the day of his birthday I made his favorite breakfast-fresh toast. I know-simple-but he loves the stuff! He went to work to play a volleyball game (he's on a volleyball team at work) and unfortunately they lost. How dare they lose on his birthday! Then we went to lunch at Carl's Jr. Darrin loves Carl's Jr. and swears it's the ONLY fast food place EVER worth going to...:). We then dropped the kids off at my in-laws (Thank you thank you thank you!!!) and we were off to our mystery activities! Darrin had no idea what the plans were. So I just set the GPS to give him directions and we were off! We ended up in Ogden. Our first activity was indoor SKYDIVING at IFLY! Ever heard off it? It was AWESOME! It's an indoor wind tunnel that simulates skydiving. We both loved it! After that we followed the GPS again and it took us to LOGAN, UT. I surprised him with a Bed and Breakfast in Logan called Seasons at the Riter Mansion. It was not our favorite bed and breakfast we've ever been to but nice nonetheless. We went to dinner at an italian restaurant across the street that was sooooo good! Darrin got a pasta dish with PEARS in it and I got Sweet Potato stuffed ravioli. SOOO good people! The next day we went to the Gardener's Market in Logan, stopped by the Brigham City Temple so we could see it in person before the dedication, and then went indoor SURFING at FLOWRIDER and Rockclimbing. Boy am I SORE!!!! When you biff it surfing it hurts! And then it hurts more the next day... But we had a BLAST! And on Friday we'll be going indoor scuba diving-another part of his gift. I'm SO blessed to have Darrin in my life! He does so much for our little family and I just love the guy SO much!!!! Happy 28th Birthday My Love! Here are some pics:
