Sleepful in Salt Lake

I woke up at 3:00 A.M. and wandered about till 3:45. During this time I thought of a dear friend of mine who is suffering from sleep deprivation. This ailment has made a deep impact on her life and often left her feeling lonely and hopeless. My prayers went out to her in a deeper way this morning.

Finally I crawled back into bed and tried to turn my mind off as my body tossed and turned. Then hoping not to disturb Dan I made my way through the darkness to our bedroom door. I tried not to trip over our dog Divi and headed for the family room couch.

The letters “EFT” kept bouncing in my head. A few days earlier I had watched a video from Maria Andros about how to get ride of a headache using acupuncture points through tapping instead of needles. I tried it and it helped with two of my headaches. As I lay on the couch I wondered if it could help me “microwave” my sleep. Since the technique only took about 3 minutes I decided to pray and asked “Please Father, if it is thy will help this EFT work for my sleep.” Then I used the technique ( see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv8Ki9_Jk-w.)

After the deep sigh suggested by EFT I laid down with a sense of trust and warmed my feet on Divi dog.

The next thing I knew I sat up awake and refreshed at 5:55 and I didn’t feel the way I usually do after loosing sleep! “Thank you Father. Thank you so much” I said glancing upward.

Later in the morning I read a scripture that seemed to fit my experience as well as any trial:

“And when they shall have received this (difficulty), which is expedient that they should have first, to try their faith (so I could move from frustration to acceptance), and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made manifest unto them.” – 3 Nephi 26:9

I’m thankful that my headaches and later my sleeplessness led me to greater knowledge and the ability to help more people. I’m not sure that EFT will work every time but it’s a good thing to have in my bag of tricks labeled “Sleepful in Salt Lake.”
